Beginning this month (July 2018) with the release of Chrome 68, Google Chrome will start marking all non-HTTPS pages as “not secure”. This is a big deal… In preparation, for the past few months, developers have been transitioning their sites to HTTPS and making the web safer for everyone.
In Chrome 68, the omnibox will display “Not secure” for all HTTP pages.
What does this have to do with the Social Share Counts on your website?
If you’ve already made the move to HTTPS or contemplating to, you may have noticed that all your Share Counts for your content disappear as soon as you make the move… social networks like Facebook and Pinterest think that your links/URLs have changed, which is why your older share count numbers are lost.
The good news is that Shareaholic can recover them for you with our proprietary Share Count Recovery technology with a click of a button. It doesn’t even matter if you were using Shareaholic before your move. Shareaholic’s technology works for any website and can recover the lost counts at any time.
If you would like to see how many share counts you are missing, use the Share Counts lookup tool to see a breakdown for any link or find out more about how to enable Share Count Recovery for your website. Give it a try and let us know if you have any questions!
